Somewhat intriguing Lincecum scandal making the rounds. I'm a bit skeptical that Tim's wholly to blame here—he seems too dorky and laid-back to suddenly freak out and start "injuring" furniture and pillows, and it would make more sense to me if it were Tim's squatter friend(s) making a ruckus while he was off in Arizona for Spring Training—but who the fuck knows? If it turns out that he really is running around trashing rental properties, I'd certainly be interested in knowing that. Worth keeping an eye on.

Meanwhile, a recipe rec. The other day, I was cooking for a friend who's allergic to dairy. So for dessert, I made this vegan chocolate cake, which rocked my world.

First, it's so easy. It literally takes five minutes to mix the batter, and you mix it in the (ungreased!) pan in which you bake the cake.

Second, it's amazing. The photo that accompanies the recipe led me to believe that the end result would be a dense, pound cake sort of texture, but that wasn't the case at all. It was tender and fluffy, with this creamy, rich chocolate flavor that was so much better than I was expecting from a vegan cake. Shows what I know.

I made a raspberry sauce to serve alongside that was even easier: tossed a pint of raspberries in a saucepan with a small handful of sugar and a splash of water, and let it bubble and foam away for a few minutes, then pressed the mixture through a sieve and added a squeeze of lemon juice.

I have a newfound respect for vegan desserts after that meal.

In non-vegan dessert news, I went to the Oktoberfest at Tempe Town Lake last night, where we ate this:

Scared the hell out of me with that whole weightlessness thing. I was white-knuckling the safety bar on that one.

Yo-Yo!

Riding it twice in a row immediately after eating funnel cake (and drinking several beers) was not the wisest decision, but we managed.

Vegan brownies are my jam because they are so gooey and soft and delicious (apple sauce instead of eggs being their magical secret)

That does sound delicious! My favorite cookie recipe (also vegan and gluten-free, as it happens) uses banana as the binder. Fruit in desserts (and not in the usual way) is a good thing.

I also found myself looking sideways at the lawsuit reports, if only because the first link I clicked on was the Seattle PI article and they seemed extra intent on making him sound as bad as possible. But I don't know if I'm just in denial. Maybe we'll learn more if it goes to court.

The first article I read about it (from one of the SF papers) was completely incoherent as far as its timeline in which events actually unfolded. The reporting hasn't exactly been top-notch, but maybe it's because no one actually knows much at this point? If it does go to court, I'm sure we'll learn quite a lot...

I love the swings! By far one of my most favorite rides at the fair.

w/r/t Lincecum, my feeling is that he's a 27 year old guy with friends and two dogs -- there's probably some damage. But, having seen how this goes, I imagine there's a lot less damage than is being claimed and the landlord is trying to milk it for all it's worth because TIMLINCECUM. They do that even when you're JUSTIN NOBODY from Cleveland, and then end up giving your security deposit back anyways in the hallway outside the courtroom.

But yeah, if he really is rampaging and destroying property, that's going to make some really interestng fic.

See, in my mind it's far more likely that Tim (and/or his friends) trashed the place, as opposed to a money-hungry landlord out to make a buck because of Tim's fame. (Working in real estate myself, that just sounds incredibly odd. Not to say there's no way it happened, but I'd be surprised if that were the case. I mean, yeah, Tim has money, but that money also gives him access to LAWYERS who'd expose a fraudulent lawsuit.)

Sounds like the landlord's been after him for months to pay for the damages and couldn't get anywhere, so she's gone to court as a last resort.

But yeah, if he really is rampaging and destroying property, that's going to make some really interesting fic.

What does it say about us that this is the first thing I thought of, too?

That we are awesome? I hope?

I hope so too! I've been trying to motivate myself to write something; let this be the catalyst.

It's San Francisco. Maybe the furniture is spiritually injured?

I thinks some of Timms' buddies would be to blame if it indeed happened. He's not one to freak out, I don't think (unless there were drugs and booze and something else involved, but even then...). This is material that's supposed to get me writing him again, right? :3

I hope so! It certainly got the wheels turning in my own head :)
