A question.

I was having a discussion with a friend earlier regarding LJ-cuts on communities. My opinion is that if someone posts a lengthy entry on a community (be it a fic, picspam, etc.) that clogs up my flist, I'm well within my rights to politely request that they place the content beneath a cut. In my experience, this is basic LJ etiquette. However, my friend feels that such a request is rude, and that only the community mod(s) should be allowed to comment asking that the entry be LJ-cut. I've never come across this since I've been on LJ, but maybe I've just missed it this whole time. So I'm wondering: Is this a common rule in communities—that only a mod can ask that entries be placed beneath a cut? I'm curious.

It probably depends on the community. Check out the rules; if it doesn't say you have no say, then I'd go ahead and say something. Though, you could probably ask the mod first, just in case there's some inherent rule that hasn't been written down.

You could also try filtering, if you're feeling passive aggressive or they deny your request.
