They try in Phoenix as well. The light rail has only been open for two months, so the novelty has yet to wear off. People are still thrilled to pieces and love to talk to strangers about every random thing. I generally humor them—it's kind of quaint, in a small-town sort of way—but part of me is looking forward to the days when people will learn to read their papers/books and keep to themselves.
