Posey's hand on Tim's hip!

Overdue for a picspam, I think.

Under here. )

Back in mid-September, I was watching one of Tim's starts against the Brewers. He was pitching okay, gave up two runs on a bloop single, it was the fifth inning and the Giants were down 2-0. Tim was getting ready to hit when the Giants' manager, Bruce Bochy, decided to pull him from the game in favor of a pinch hitter (because Tim is a terrible hitter and the idea was that anyone else would be better in a situation where the Giants needed to score runs, which they hadn't been doing consistently, Tim's contributions notwithstanding).

So Tim was pulled, and he was furious. I had never seen him so angry. I mean, I had never really seen him even borderline angry in general, so I was kind of uncomfortable and simultaneously fascinated by Tim fuming on the bench in the dugout.

Then Bochy game over to where he was sitting, grabbed Tim's knees and pushed them apart, and slid his body in between his legs and talked to him and I did not know what to do. First my existing discomfort ratcheted up exponentially. Then I recoiled at the reality of what I was seeing.

And then, I kind of liked it.

Bochy eventually wandered off to continue managing the game, and Tim sat in the dugout like so:
Photobucket

It was explained afterwards that Bochy was "calming Tim down." Mainly all it did was plant a seed of an idea that has been intermittently nurtured over the ensuing months.

So, confession time. Basically, I kind of have a thing now for Tim and older men.

I probably shouldn't. I alarm even myself with it sometimes. And yet I keep collecting photos here and there, pretending it's all innocent, and now I'm going to share them with you.

Sorry. )

Well, that was cathartic. And embarrassing. But if I can't be honest with my flist, who can I tell such things to?

Spent a below-freezing Thanksgiving holiday in the city where I was born, which grows perpetually more bizarre every time I go back to visit. More on that later, with pictures.

But for now, pictures of another sort. Because word on the street is that Tim's generally not very pretty, and, I mean.

Photobucket

I beg to differ, obviously. )

He's just sneaky beautiful, if you ask me.

By the way, is it spring training yet? I was in Old Town the other night with some friends, so we stopped by Scottsdale Stadium since I'd never been there before. I hung out the window taking pictures of the Giants banners as we slowly drove circles in the deserted parking lot. It was awesome, like coming home. I got weirdly emotional. I look forward to going there in the actual daytime, to an actual game :)

It's embarrassing, but I still don't exactly know what to do with myself these days. I'm a little lost without baseball, but it's the most beautiful, happy sort of lost.

So, a picspam. Some playoff photos that I wasn't organized enough to post at the time, gorgeous day-in-the-life shots that an SI photographer took during the season, plus other random finds.

World Series, vintage!Tim, w/Obama, gif, etc. )

Not gonna lie, it's a little weird celebrating the World Series Champion San Francisco Giants here in Phoenix. When Wilson recorded the final out on Monday night, the only sound in the bar was me, applauding. My friends didn't even realize that the Giants had just won the entire thing.

I don't even know what to do, sometimes.

But yeah, it's like celebrating in a vacuum. "If a tree falls in a forest," etc. Thank goodness for LJ <3

I secretly streamed the victory parade today at work. It was beautiful—the weather, the city, the immeasurable joy on the faces of the players and fans. Tim in his girlpants.

Photos, of course. )

Wish I had been there! Next time, I'm just going to have to pay the money. It's probably worth it :)

And yet simultaneously, an amazing success.

Giants 11, Rangers 7.

So much for dueling pitchers, but it was a cool game anyway.

I was reading an article on ESPN.com yesterday, and it contained a description of Tim that's probably the best I've seen:

"Lincecum was all elbows and angles and effort...Lincecum, who looks like a character from a graphic novel, or the way I've always pictured Ichabod Crane, is listed at 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds. He has the elongated features of a very tall person, but is not in fact tall."

Loved that. The article, which details the hype surrounding Lincecum/Halladay and the relatively disappointing reality of their matchup, is worth reading if that sort of thing interests you.

Meanwhile, I've been collecting various photos of Tim pretending to take batting practice and looking ridiculous as I wait for him to go again on Thursday.

Between starts. )

Watched today's game on the secret computer at work. It was amazing, if hard to follow from across the room and generally stressful.

Wow. Just...wow, on various levels.

Then that "hippy trash" went out and beat their team.

More photos. )

I have a new BFF, and it's called US Presswire. Mainly because of photos like this:

Photobucket

That place is a goldmine. The persistent watermarks are unfortunate, but it's a small price to pay given the content available.

A US Presswire retrospective of Tim through the years. )

I've been scouring the internet looking for photos of Tim from last night's celebration, and I've found exactly three, one of which I included in this post. It's kind of depressing, because he was in rare form, with his socks and his hair and his arms—but no one seems to have anything. The video content has been equally underwhelming.

I will never understand journalism.

Photobucket

Literally. )

Except for Rafa, maybe, during a disasterpiece of a match in Cincy or something like that.

Anyway, it was sticky and gross in Atlanta, and Tim was clearly miserable and a hot mess intermittently, but I kind of enjoyed it even though I felt bad for him. I've always been a sucker for hair stuck wetly to cheeks, and throats—it's one of those things, for me.

Getting vaguely organized for Flagstaff this weekend—charging my phone and camera, doing laundry, getting in some runs and some yoga. We're only going to be there for 24 hours but according to my calculations I might need as many as four outfits? I'm looking forward to potential ghosts.

[livejournal.com profile] soupypictures is an enabler worthy of praise. I stayed in on a Friday night to watch Giants/Dodgers on mlb.tv (Tim Lincecum was pitching) and chat at length about his uniform, his face, his changeup, his persistent sniffling in the cold. It was kind of amazing, and I was very invested in the whole thing.

There's unfortunately very little fic to be had, but what exists is mostly very, very good. I've been reading this fic over and over, to the point that I worry [livejournal.com profile] candle_beck will think I'm some sort of stalker lurking in the dark corners. I'm willing to take that risk, though, because it's excellent.

Should we have some more photos, maybe? )

Wish there was more of a fuss made over this boy.

My legs are killing me.

I hiked Piestewa Peak on Saturday morning: 1.2 miles up, 1.2 miles down. It's not far, but the trail was steep and challenging, and there were stretches where I wondered WTF I was doing. But the view from the summit was well worth the effort, and I love being sore, so I'm pretty okay with it in general—as long as I'm not attempting to sit or crouch or anything like that. I didn't expect it to be quite this bad, but running is not the same as hiking, and although I do walk 20 flights of stairs a day, 20 flights of stairs is not the same as 2.4 miles of rocky terrain.

A couple of pics from the top. )

On Sunday, there was a historic home tour in the Willo District. The houses in that area are incredibly unique and charming from the outside, and it was really interesting to see the insides. I get a little claustrophobic in older homes, with their walls everywhere and tiny single bathrooms. It's hard to imagine living in something like that when you were raised in a suburban Phoenix house with two-story vaulted ceilings and an open floor plan, but obviously many people do, and very happily so.

I didn't take any pictures of the houses, only of some flowering trees that I came across. Because apparently, it's spring already. )

Meanwhile, Steve Nash had a decent 48 hours.

Photobucket

Light the Olympic flame in Vancouver one night, fly to NBA All Star festivities in Dallas and win the Skills Challenge the next night, then play as an All Star starter the following night.

I think that deserves a little picspam. )

Good work, Steve. I'm glad this guy's on my team <3

What did I spend the last three hours watching?

Usually I'm good at letting things roll off, but this is beyond. I don't understand what this even was. How could a team make so many mistakes, and look so horrifically bad, when so much is at stake?

I was getting really, really angry at the Cards. Like, irrationally angry.

And then this happened. )

The ensuing panic—as Larry was surrounded by fluttering trainers, tried to stand, collapsed, and was escorted back to the locker room—helped to temper my rage momentarily, but it didn't last.

Thankfully, Larry came back and played, but it didn't really matter. The team looked ridiculous.

At least someone managed to take a lot of nice pictures of Larry warming up. )

That's about the only positive thing to come out of this game. I have that crazy pseudo-diabetic feeling that I usually only get following Rafa's gut-wrenching losses in majors.

Meanwhile, I fell out of a malfunctioning elevator this morning, ate way too much sugar and wheat, and went on a really painful run. Not an auspicious Monday. And to think, it started out with such promise, it really did...

Well, on to Tuesday.

ETA: I should've known things would go awry when Larry tweeted this earlier.

Larry <3

After going his entire career without a single shirtless photo, Larry not only took it off for Men's Fitness, but he's also now stripping and getting sweaty for Visa commercials.

A gratuitous screenshot, plus the video in its entirety. )

Not that I'm complaining, by any means. Better late than never.

He showed flashes of the old brilliance in yesterday's game, and I got a little fluttery. Preseason Larry. )

As much as I may despise his Twitter, I do still <3 him. And I'll never get over his smile, or the angle of his cheekbones, or the lines around his eyes. I think he's amazing.

Firstly, Rafa:

<3 <3 <3

I am so happy he won today. I told myself I wasn't going to worry about it either way (everything after Wimbledon 2008 is icing on the cake), but of course once he started playing I got caught up in it and emotional as usual. I also thought this was an important week for Rafa, brushing aside all challengers and winning emphatically.

After the match, I renewed my Phoenix Suns tickets. I was a little nauseated by it; it's a lot of money to pay for something that likely will just drive me insane with frustration. But in the end, I had to do it. Ride or die, right?

Today is also the first day I've felt normal since donating blood on Thursday. It's been kind of bizarre; I never had issues like this before. I'd get a little crazy and woozy during the process itself, but I'd be fine afterwards. Not so this time. I spent the entire day following the donation in a stupor, utterly exhausted. I was still tired the second day, too, so I waited until Saturday to resume running. It was a strange, disoriented run, but I managed a normal distance. Everything seems fine today; went to the gym and had a good workout, and chatted with a random guy in a Roger Federer hat, the first RF hat I've ever come across in RL :D

Random Larry picspam. Is it August yet? )

So, [livejournal.com profile] buckle_berry has turned out to be quite the enabler in recent days. She encouraged me to post another Larry Fitzgerald picspam, and I am only too happy to oblige :D

Not very dial-up friendly. )

I stayed home from work today, but I'm feeling better and should be going back tomorrow. Three straight days of nothing but sleeping, eating, and writing have been quite therapeutic.
horizon_greene: Robert Smith singing (fly)
Holy shit, the Arizona Cardinals are going to Tampa Bay to play in the Super Bowl. I'm a bandwagoner (although, in my defense, I have been following them all season and didn't just join up for the playoffs), but this is just awesome, you guys. After decades of ignoring the team, the town is now painted red, there are banners up all over the place, people are flying flags from their cars. I love stuff like this.

Photobucket

And I'm completely enamored with Larry Fitzgerald, who's breaking records all over the place and is just generally ridiculous. Plus he's traveled the world and likes to cook and has a wonderful smile. Maybe he's the next? I've been wondering who it would be.

ETA: A picspam, in honor of Mr. Fitzgerald, because I haven't done one in a while and they're fun )

Tonight is the Phoenix Suns vs. Miami Heat game; it's the first time the two teams have played since the Suns traded Shawn Marion to the Heat for Shaquille O'Neal back in February. It'll also be a reunion of sorts for Shawn and Boris. I hope they give me something to work with. They were probably my favorite pairing to write, and it was amazing to have them so close at hand all the time, playing for my favorite team, in my hometown, tangible enough that I would run into Boris on the street sometimes.

They were also awesome because they were so plausible. I'm convinced that they were at least blowing each other after games, if not in a full-on relationship. All the signs were there. And I miss the two of them. Boris is still around, but it's not the same—he's not the same, hasn't been since the 2005-2006 season—and I'm really looking forward to going to the game tonight and watching for something, anything. I would love to write them again :)

Allow me to reminisce on that one magical season... )
horizon_greene: Robert Smith singing (fire)
I'm watching Yankees/Mets right now; the more I watch baseball (which admittedly, isn't much), the more I realize I don't understand. I mean, I understand the game generally, and can tell the difference between a ball and a strike, and I know what a DH is (although I still don't fully understand how that whole thing works in interleague play), and so on and so forth, but there are a lot of little things that I just don't know. I suppose that the more you watch, the more you learn, but I struggle to muster the enthusiasm to watch consistently. I don't know why—especially since I love postseason baseball.

Transitioning to a sport that I more fully understand, today was the Hamburg final: Federer/Nadal XVI. )

After a weekend of tennis and house-hunting, I'm very happy—if a bit worn out and sleep-deprived.

ETA: I've had ESPN on all evening, and in a shocking but welcome development, SportsCenter not only had a decent recap of the match (it's amazing how much more impressive tennis is when you can actually see the ball), but one of Nadal's backhand volleys made Top Ten Plays :D
