fragments of memory

I watched Thor over the weekend on the recommendation of feels_like_fire and others. I thought the movie was kind of awful, but this character was...wow, so I sought out the relevant fic comms, as you do.

And I don't even know what to say, except that I've read more dub-con/non-con (which I don't necessarily dislike) and mpreg (which I definitely dislike) in the past day than I have in the past three years. What is the deal with this fandom? Is this common in fantasy genres in general? I've spent so much time in sports RPS that maybe I'm just unfamiliar with the norms in larger, more active fandoms, but holy shit. Everywhere I turned, someone was being held against their will and forcibly impregnated, and I just don't get it. And the fic, by and large, is shockingly bad. I don't get that, either.

I guess I was expecting something different given the Thor/Loki dynamic, something more akin to Wincest and all the associated angst and emotional trauma, but it seems like most of the authors subscribe to the "But they're not really brothers!" school of thought, so there's none of that. There's just rape, rape, and more rape. And Loki-as-a-kitten!fics. And something else that I couldn't bring myself to investigate too thoroughly—something about a horse giving birth, and what is this I don't even.

(That said, does anyone have any recs?)
