Beatles Day <3
I'm not really into video games, so I'll be giving The Beatles: Rock Band a pass, but I'm looking forward to picking up the remastered albums at some point.
Have I ever posted about The Beatles on here? I don't think so, and in hindsight it's weird that I haven't. They were my first fandom, my first experience with that rush to want to know everything and anything, to watch every piece of film and listen to as much audio and view as many photos as possible. I think I've read more books about The Beatles than any other subject.
They were also my first experience with fan fiction before I even knew that fan fiction existed. I sat at the computer at night and wrote an epic 50+ page Mary-Sue when I was 15/16. This was before my family got around to spending money on a dial-up modem, so I wasn't on the internet and had no idea that there were other people out there doing the same thing. It was a weird, lonely feeling for a year or two, and then, later, an incredible relief to realize I wasn't alone.
Anyway, the fic was horrible. Let me regale you with a synopsis of this spellbinding tale:
The female character (FC) is an American college student in the early 60s who goes to Germany to study...wait for it...German. But instead of studying in the conventional way, FC spends all her time in clubs "researching", and one night, meets The Beatles. Specifically, Paul McCartney. Sex ensues. Her roommate (who conveniently has the same name as my BFF at the time) disapproves. FC gets pregnant, chooses not to tell Paul, and goes back to the US.
I wish I could remember what the baby's name was. It was either something totally ridiculous, or it was "Paul". It's been so long I've forgotten some of the finer details.
But not all the details! Because the story continues. Fast forward a few years. FC is taking a relaxing vacation by herself in the Bahamas, leaving the kid behind with grandma. She stays at a house which has a couch with olive-green pillows. Why that detail was important, I don't know. Anyway, FC takes a walk on the beach, and runs into...wait for it...Paul McCartney. Who conveniently is in the Bahamas filming Help! Sex ensues. And another kid ensues.
At this point, I think the plot sort of trailed off. I still have the story somewhere, saved on an old floppy disk, but I'm not sure where I've stashed it. Part of me wants to read it again, just for the crazy nostalgia, and part of me is too mortified to ever dare open up the file. I guess you live and learn from stuff like this, though. I went on to write another Mary-Sue about Justin Timberlake (with a special guest appearance by Nick Carter), and then another about Taylor Hanson. And then, mercifully, I went to college, discovered slash, and that pretty much changed the course of my entire fandom/writing life.
I've been through plenty of fandoms since then, but there's nothing like your first <3

Date: 2009-09-10 06:24 am (UTC)I don't know if I could bring myself to recreate it, in any form! Given how long it takes me to write shortish, legitimate fic, I shudder at the thought of tackling a 10-year-old 50-page Mary-Sue, lol.
