And then suddenly, shockingly, there it was?

Tim wore high socks tonight. My personal holy grail, wet dream, fantastical scenario that I feared I'd never see in a real game. Do we need to talk about how maybe Barry Zito is dressing him nowadays? Because it looks suspiciously like that is what's happening.
soupypictures and I nearly had a stroke when he came out. He was all striped and bright and crazy-looking and we figured the night was going to be awesome.

And then, of course, he was immediately a disaster, and he just looked so small and lost and orange out there and it was devastating, heart-attack inducing. He kind of got it together eventually, but it was far too late by then.
I'm wondering, at this point, if it's bad luck that I discovered his existence.
(But the high socks! Oh, my heart <3)

Date: 2010-08-28 12:40 pm (UTC)This is what really upset me about his performance: Okay, in the first inning he walked a couple guys, but it was really just ONE pitch that ruined it and kept him from leaving the inning unscathed. And on his own LaRoche wouldn't have been able to do that do him.
The inning where he gave up the 4th run was a hot mess, yeah, but only ONE run came out of it.
Not that it would have mattered anyway, there in the end, because the bats could not muster one single run, but 1-0 would look a lot better than 4-0.
I shouldn't let this get to me though, considering how much time I spend telling myself those stats are stupid and don't show anything. He wasn't hitting his spots and that's that.

Date: 2010-08-28 03:14 pm (UTC)The thing is, in the first inning, he walked the first guy by being completely ridiculous. Those pitches weren't even close. The second guy he walked, if I remember correctly, there was some controversy over whether or not the batter went around (which would've been the third strike). When the umpires decided he hadn't, I thought, "This is not going to end well." And then it didn't.
That's why he can't walk batters, ultimately. One creepy pitch and he's fucked himself.
Oh well. What are the odds he rocks the socks for his next start?

Date: 2010-08-28 10:34 pm (UTC)Yes, this. Baseball uniforms are kind of horrible, but the socks exponentially improve the entire situation, when the players can be bothered to wear them; I kind of don't know how this boy caught my attention without them.
Thank you so much for the link—I hadn't seen that before. That is the sweetest letter I've ever read. As crazy as he is, you have to believe that Weezy's a genuinely good guy.
