Copper Queen

The weekend's adventure took us to the far reaches of Southern Arizona, past Tucson and Tombstone and even further down than that. Where we found Bisbee, a former mining town and present-day artists colony. Also home to the Copper Queen, a historic and allegedly haunted hotel that counts Teddy Roosevelt, John Wayne, and at least one disgruntled prostitute amongst its guests.
One of our rooms. It was so quaint and comfy, and the staff left freshly-baked chocolate chip cookies in little baggies on the nightstand. Best I've ever had.

Who would have known that cookies go great with this?

View from the hotel pool.

This is part of a dog park. Of all things.

The town is set on a hillside, very steep with winding, narrow streets. Very European, actually. And lots of steps.

St. Elmo, the oldest bar in Arizona if the bar can be believed. "Loki made me do it."

Dinner on the second floor at Cafe Roka.

After dinner and drinks at the hotel's saloon, we came back upstairs and drank tequila and told ghost stories by flashlight until someone fell into the AC. Then we called it a night.
Breakfast in the neighboring hamlet of Lowell, AZ.

Driving around after breakfast on Sunday, we inadvertently found ourselves at the Mexican border, which was exciting, but no one batted an eyelash when we made a hasty three-point turn and headed north.
It was a good weekend.
