Against the odds, in the rain, with Pence's Bat of God moment...

Wow.

It wasn't the way I would have drawn it up, kids, but what a way to get to the World Series. Don't stop now.

(I had hoped for some Zito/Lincecum celebratory mud-wrestling on that sloppy field, but alas.)

Whirled serious! I'm beginning to feel a bit entitled. ALL the pennants.

Right? Twice in three years, it's amazing.

I, wow, wow. Just, wow. I'm still expiring of exhausted happiness.

(Also, there was a ton of Zito/Lincecum hugging after Game 5 -- deservedly so! -- so there should be pics around somewhere?)

I did see the hugging—which, actually, was nothing compared to tonight's various interactions.

Not bad so far for a "not good enough" team, eh? ;)

oh my God, I'm going to stop counting them out now. Fine, I guess they'll win! I was on the subway on the way home from a WS-watching party I went to, trying to figure out how they could lose enough games that Vogey could close it out in Game 7. :-)

It's like the weather decided to start the champagne shower early.

*What a series.* I didn't think anything could top 2010, but this postseason run has already been even more amazing, satisfying, and wonderful.

I'm glad we have a day off today to just savor it all.

the day off is really nice. I wish there were two, actually :)

At this point I'm all HOUSE MONEY BABY. We'll see if that lasts. God, Zito/Verlander is gonna be epic, though. There are only two realistic outcomes:

(1) Verlander goes all All-Star game, Giants score five early, Zito pitches a CGSO

(2) Zito gets shelled, pulled with two outs in the 2nd, Lincecum comes in.

Either seems pretty fantastically awesome to me.

yes! I said to my friends that I was watching the game with (who are not Giants people) that I thought the game would be a laugher; *someone* was going to win 11-0, but I didn't know which side.

As the score crept up, and up, and up, I was like ...making progress towards 11-0!

If Tim can continue his sparkling play from the bullpen, I'll be satisfied all-around with this postseason. Tim's struggles as a starter have been the one wrench in this whole thing, but I have to say there's something about Tim coming on in relief of Zito. They seem very...connected on those nights.

It's so rare that there's rain like that around here! It made it more special somehow, hehe.

Man, I remember a couple of weeks ago being bummed at the thought of Zito finally being picked to start a playoff game and perhaps not even getting to play if the Giants had lost Game 3 of the NLDS.

I love that Timmy relieved him. I also like this description from a journalist: "Zito and Lincecum seemed to merge as one, like some sort of heavy-lidded Transformer" hahaha.

My cold, emotionless heart was slightly thawed by all my tiny cousins-- basically, eight tiny little Chinese kids from the ages of twelve to two-- running around excitedly in their SF gear and shrieking, "Posey! Scudero! Lincecum! Zito! Wilson!" when the win was official.

(We also set off sparklers. I even found it in me not to immediately post something to facebook to make my St. Louis side of the family feel bad.)

Were you in SF when they clinched? If so, how was it? Beyond the sparklers, of course. I NEED TO KNOW.

Nah, sorry-- my brother just got married and we've had the whole clan here in DC for it. Since Dad's half of the family is all from SF, that basically meant we watched the games every night. (Even on the night of the wedding, they were all checking their phones, it was hilarious.)

(I also nearly committed parracide when my St. Louis aunt's first comment to me when arriving was, "Oh, the Nats? Don't they spell that G-N-A-T-S?" Seriously, there was almost straight up murder. I have never savored tears so delicious as those of my St. Louis family when the Giants kicked the crap out the Cardinals in the last two games.)

G-N-A-T-S?

*facepalm* Oh wow. How long did it take them to come up with that one?

I'm glad you were able to exact some measure of retribution, in the end.

yo, did you see Lincecum's comments on Zeets today? They made me all sniffly.

“It’s just complete retribution,” Lincecum said. “I’m really close to him and I know he’s helped me through what I’ve gone through. He’s so selfless. He’s always going about his work, trying to be better no matter the situation. This has been a big week for him and it’s been fun to watch. I look up to him like he’s a big brother. It was pretty emotional for me to watch him pitch in St. Louis. I’m just really, really proud of him.”

So I get home from work tonight, dog-tired, thinking I don't have time to even *think* about Zito getting annihilated by Verlander, and I see this - this retribution comment, and I nearly fall down the porch steps laughing about it.

The poststructuralist in me thinks there's monsters from the id here - this is a kid who uses the word 'exacerbate' correctly. But still. And tonight, the two of them, and the rest of the team -

It doesn't get any better than this.

Thanks for passing it on - I would have missed it.

"I look up to him like he’s a big brother my sophisticated older lover."

That's a great quote, though. I don't know if I've ever heard Lincecum gush quite so obviously.

I just know the word "daddy" figured into this originally before you made it all classy and shit.

You know—

I was sitting there for the longest time, thinking "there's some sort of clearly superior alternative to 'big brother' in this situation, why does it elude me?"

I never thought of it at the time, but of course now it's the only thing I can think of.

*ahem*

ok, last back-catalog comment spam, I promise, but I just have to say: my sister and I got to go to this game AND IT WAS AWESOME. POSSIBLY THE MOST AWESOME BASEBALL GAME I HAVE EVER BEEN AT.
