Is anyone else enamored with this show? I'm wondering how it took me so long to give it a chance, after hearing good things about it for years. Clever dialogue + nuanced physical comedy is one of the best combos, as far as I'm concerned, and Jim Parsons as Sheldon Cooper is as good as I've seen.

Bazinga.

I love it. Started watching it in Hawaii because my mom DVRs all of it.

My dad loves it too! Funny how the parents seemed to have the inside track on this one.

Agreed!

LOL Sheldon especially.

The guys remind me of my junior-high-school boyfriends.

Sheldon makes that show, doesn't he?

Ahaha, your old boyfriends! That's amazing :)

It's on now. I've seen every episode at least twice! Not just Sheldon - the whole cast is great. It's better than any UK comedies at the moment...

I'm pleasantly surprised to discover just who else is watching this show :) You're right in that it's a fantastic ensemble—don't know if you've seen any blooper reels, but they are a good indicator of the chemistry between the cast members.

Yes, I saw the 100th episode anniversary special. The entire series + specials loop on one UK channel, so we probably see even more of it than most in the US. (We gave in and got UK TV a while back; even the French go anglophone for comedy.) Do you remember Third Rock from the Sun? It's not by the same team, but it was the best in its day, and seemed like a forerunner to TBBT. Mind you, that really did suffer from the lack of women that [livejournal.com profile] sunsetfog mentions below; I think Penny and the others are crucial to BBT's success.

Third Rock from the Sun was must-see TV in my house back in the day—my entire family would watch. You're right in that it does share a similar humor. Kind of interesting that the main female character wasn't even a female—or human, for that matter.

Good memories :)

I've watched most of the first season with friends from college. It came on the air right after I graduated, and I think I decided after graduation that I had had enough of Caltech for a while.

It's probably been long enough that I can handle watching a comedy about the people in/around there. At the time, my life might as well have been a comedy except my girlfriends and I were offended that it didn't have enough nerdy women in it. That's probably not a good reason not to watch.

Sorry to jump in here, but you'll be relieved to know that the female-count does grow with the series. I'm with you wholeheartedly on that one; much as I think she's a great actress and obviously necessary as the 'uneducated' one, it was a glaring gaff - of a type that's all-too-common in comedy - to make Penny the only female representative. At least they sussed that out.

That's good to hear! Maybe I'll watch the next season.

There are some great female characters on the show now. If you ever get around to watching it again, you'll have to let me know what you think of it!
