Standing on a beach

I got home last night after a week-long vacation in Florida, which was wonderful and sorely needed. We went fishing, parasailing, kayaking, swimming in the ocean, walking along the beach. I bravely scrambled hand over foot across a treacherous rocky outcropping to get to the good shelling beach—and then found no good shells. But there was a certain calmness, once the adrenaline subsided from nearly slipping to certain injury, in standing on the flatter expanse of the rocks, digging my toes into the moss and staring out at the surf, practically alone except for a lone fisherman in the waves.

I read Lol's book Cured while I was there. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the writing, but disappointed by how boring most of the content was. There were some interesting bits about the earliest days of the band, but I'd been hoping for some salacious, tell-all-style details, or at the very least some new insights into the murkier aspects of Cure canon—but no such luck. I still don't even know the specifics around how Robert and Simon met. It kills me sometimes to imagine how much of their canon is "analog"—trapped in dusty copies of NME in someone's basement, or on tapes in someone's closet, lost to the world.

I also made my way through a decent chunk of dream1989's "A Night Like This," which was perfect escapist beach reading.

Robert should've stuck with the crimping; it suited him. (He also should've stuck with the leather pants he rocked in the early years, if we want to go down the laundry list...)

Anyway, now I'm home, having a lazy day. I'm still in bed, but will get up soon to make breakfast tacos. I also think I'll get out the crock pot for dinner; it seems like that kind of weather, finally. And I might do something with the random fragments of fic that I mapped out in my head while I was away.

Your Florida trip sounds so nice and yet even though it seems like you were pretty active, that can also be relaxing. It's so good to have time away from RL for a bit. I love the beach and the ocean, there's just something so soothing about it to me. Hope you had nice weather. Glad you weren't injured in your trek to the other beach! ☺

I read his book a few weeks ago and I have the same opinion about it. The writing quality was good, however, for me it was lacking in content. I sort of knew that would be the case, as Lol and Robert have reconciled and I think Lol was careful about what he revealed. I could be wrong, but just my take on it.

I also love this pic. He was just so beautiful around this time and I have to say he was always so hot with the leather trousers. In fact, the other night I had a hankering for 1984 Rob! I watched them in Munich, 1984. One of my fave videos from the with Andy drumming, but sadly, no Simon, only Norman Fischer-Jones. :( I used to have that show on VHS years back...

Your vacation seems great! Pity that after your perilous trek to the other beach you couldn't find good shells. When I still had my Summer house not only did I love watching the sea (I miss it very much) but I always came home with little shells (nothing special but I liked them) and stones that I kept and put in my house.

I was sure Lol's book would be disappointing, at least as far as our curiosity about Robert and Simon is concerned. I don't even know if it's available here, I didn't look for it. But, if there's someone who has dusty copies of old NME and Melody Maker (plus a magazine called Disc that I didn't even remember) that's me. I looked for them and found them again in the basement of this building where I moved after my parents died. I haven't found the time to reorder them by date and to leaf through them yet. In all these months I've kept wondering if there's something in them about the beginning of The Cure.

When you say crock pot you mean a clay pot? I have three and I love cooking in them. Now that it's suddenly gotten colder here I've started using them again.

Sounds like a fantastic vacation. You were busy without the drudgery of RL. I thought Lol's book would be exactly as you described-sterile along the lines of 'Never Enough'. Missescookie read it and summarized it for us, so I didn't bother reading it. I did think some of the stuff about when they were younger, particularly Robert's mum telling the neighbor she'd tell the kids to be quiet as soon as they stopped their dog from pooing on her lawn.

Glad you've enjoyed 'ANLT'! I'd always meant to go back and edit one day but it just kept going and going. I know some of it is really sloppy but I'm glad you've liked it anyway.

HAHA-I agree about the crimping and the leather pants but only with the shirt untucked. He always had the propensity to wear pants up to his armpits. We've theorized that he was trying to give the illusion of legs that go on for days like those of his boyfriend. Poor baby. I'm sure many people have despaired when comparing themselves to Simon. Happily, Simon seems pretty clueless about that.

I've always thought that Robert's legs have been severely underrated over the years—which I understand, to a degree, given the way he started to dress around 1985 or so. Made it hard to appreciate what he had going on, although I will say that the first time I watched Play Out, what stood out to me the most were Robert's beautiful hands and long, long legs.

And I'd be remiss not to include "A Caterpillar" on TOTP, which is magical for many reasons, but Robert splaying his leather-clad legs all over the place was certainly a highlight for me. Things get particularly wonderful around the 2:41 mark ;)

I think his legs are adorable. I think he has body image issues is way too self-conscious. It makes him even cuter. I still think he might have tried to give the impression of having longer legs and I suspect that it was because he was comparing himself to a young Mr. Sexy Gams, which is silly. There's nothing at all wrong with Robert. Simon just has freakishly long sexy legs uncommon for any man. Their waists are in totally different places. Simon is like 2/3 legs, Robert is more half legs, half upper body.

I've never seen that exact pic, just similar ones from that session. He is so damn adorable. His legs look great in that pic.

Will have to watch the video later as I'm at work.

Oh, his hands...ga, ga, ga...I love his hands-long fingers and I have a perverse obsession with his long nailbeds too.

I didn't even realise there was a third picture from that photoshoot floating around on the internet!!!! :o I used to have a little copy printed out and blu-tacked to my bedside table before I completely rearranged my room sometime last year, it's one of my favourites b/c of his lil leggies 💖
If anyone's curious the other guy is the late Stuart Adamson of Skids and Big Country I believe!
