I was in Vegas over the weekend to see the Backstreet Boys close our their residency at Planet Hollywood. I hadn't seen them since 2001, when I was a freshman in college, and I'd been doing pretty okay not really thinking about them much at all for the last 18 years—but good lord, when they came on stage, all the enthusiasm and giddy emotion came flooding back in a rush (helped out a bit by the pre-concert ingestion of certain chemicals, admittedly).

I spent most of the set admiring Nick, who was always my favorite. He still looks spectacular—tall and solid and confident—and he sounds great, too. I'd forgotten how much that whiny voice gets to me.

And I also thought that I might find it absurd watching a group of five men in their 30s and 40s performing a choreographed dance routine while singing, but...no! Still into it after all these years! Someone (thankfully!) posted a video of the chair dancing during "As Long As You Love Me," which was as iconic as ever ;D

While in Vegas, I also ate my very first cronut, fed a lot of money into the Wheel of Fortune machine, and walked arm-in-arm for hours with a friend looking for the elusive Wild Cherry slot machine—great experiences, all.

I'm glad you had a good time! I wasn't really a fan but I liked them. I loved their songs, after so many years Everybody still makes me want to dance. And they all looked good and danced very well (and I opened your link and saw they stll do!). So Nick Carter is still handsome? ;)

I'm glad you had such a good time! That's so fun when music can bring it all back for you. I heard a song on my iPod the other day that hit me like that. It was such a distinct point in time and powerfully brought that time into focus.

Glad their performance was awesome. That always makes a fan proud.

It was 'Boys of Summer' by Don Henley-not a huge fan, but it's a great atmospheric song. I like what you've written about it being embedded in your DNA-so true. If I hear 'Plainsong' unexpectedly, I'll nearly faint. Heard it in a movie once and it brought tears to my eyes.
