My sister just bought her first place, so I went over earlier to eat KFC and see the house. It's way out in the west valley, past alfalfa fields and suspicious-looking cowboy bars and dusty feed lots full of cattle. The house itself is lovely, but the location boggles my mind. I was relieved to come home to downtown.

I am still waiting for my dad to get into town. His flight has been delayed. Very delayed. To pass the time, I've been browsing Lil Wayne photos in the hope that there might be some out there that are not completely alarming.









I still don't understand why he's so fascinating. Maybe it's because I've always been a sucker for stuff like this:



Or maybe it's the little scraps of biographical data—how he was essentially raped as an 11-year-old, the daddy issues, the recreational use of prescription cough syrup. Not to mention the wrecked voice, which I love in spite of myself.

I'm quite tired now, and not looking forward to driving to the airport. Hopefully the plane gets here soon.

The other guy is Birdman, another rapper who's also Lil Wayne's mentor/father figure/I think he owns Cash Money Records and pays him money, if I'm remembering correctly. Birdman's excuse, when the picture came out, is that "Wayne's like a son, and I kiss all my children." Which obviously doesn't fly very well in the hip-hop community. I've never come across any explanation from Wayne.

I hope you weren't too alarmed by what you found on youtube. The first time I wandered over there looking for Lil Wayne content, I experienced the same sense of disbelief ;) Oh fandom, the things you make us do.

Dad got in around 2:30am. By the time I picked him up and got back home, it was 3:30. Up at 9:00am to go to my sister's and paint. It's been a long day.
