Sedona revisited.

Went up to Sedona for the weekend. Just the girls this time, so no big gay weddings and no drag queens. It was gorgeous and a lot of fun, even though I was perpetually cold. Apparently my idea of 61 degrees isn't very accurate, especially when the wind is blowing like crazy the entire time; in the future I will bring more clothes. And a legitimate coat.
This is Chapel of the Holy Cross, built into the side of a mountain and absolutely amazing. It almost made me want to go to church properly sometime, not just visit and take a bunch of touristy photos.

"Please don't pick us, we're smiling at God."

We stopped a pretty crazy store with two adorable cats running around and free samples of life-changing mulled apple cider. Seriously, my new goal in life is to replicate that cider. But of course, I couldn't just buy the spice packets that they were selling—that would have been far too easy and made too much sense.

The store's "cactus room."

Later in the day we hiked the Teacup Trail. It was beautiful.

See the teapot in the rock formations?

At the end of the trail (maybe not the actual end, but the end for us) was an enormous sinkhole. There were no railings or anything, just sheer dropoffs of undetermined depth and random people walking right up to the edge with no regard for their personal safety. The entire thing almost gave me a panic attack.

Woke up this morning to cold, rainy weather outside the windows, so we just cooked breakfast and then sat around in front of the fireplace drinking tea and watching football.

As an aside, I own at Boggle. Can you say "venerate"? 11 points, thank you very much.
Meanwhile, I'm writing actual Posey/Lincecum (which in large part I blame on this gif), but it's kind of a weird thing.
Especially when I find Zito/Lincecum gifs of this variety.

Tim and Barry just seem perfectly suited to each other, IMO, so this sudden influx of Posey/Lincecum shenanigans in my own head has me unsettled. And yet, here I am writing it.
So, there's that. A good weekend.

Date: 2010-12-05 08:00 am (UTC)Anyhow, yeah...I love a lot of the players...but those two just have "adorable" written all over them. Maybe 'cause they both still look ridiculously young.
And the link I gave you seems to have stopped working for some reason...stupid computers...so here it is again: http://i1113.photobucket.com/albums/k513/maiyatpt/timmyposeyaw.gif?t=1291535676

Date: 2010-12-05 03:47 pm (UTC)Those gifs they are killing me. I freely admit to being a technodummy so totally fail at anything connected with gifs, except to admire others' handiwork. Looking forward to seeing more of those and, oh yes, the fic. Of course!

Date: 2010-12-05 09:25 pm (UTC)The Southwest is really nice in parts. IMO, Sedona is sort of the pinnacle when it comes to that sort of landscape; I've never seen a place more beautiful than that, at least not in Arizona.
Eh, I can't make gifs either—I just collect them :) I'm certain there are websites where you can make your own gifs, but the entire process is basically a mystery. (I've recently become distracted by an unfinished Zito/Lincecum fic, which I'm typing away at instead of the Poseyfic.)

Date: 2010-12-06 03:05 am (UTC)I'm so woefully failtastic with gifs that I saved one to my computer a couple of years ago, thinking it would make a great icon. Unfortunately, it lost its "moving" qualities, I have no clue why. So there went that idea. I *have* been able to save and use a couple that were already made into icons, so at least I have those. But other than that...I just don't get it.
Zito/Lincecum, Poseyfic, it makes no difference. It's all good!

Date: 2010-12-06 03:29 am (UTC)Here's a photo I took near Ouray, CO. We were fishing above the timberline, so 11,000ish in elevation. Nothing could grow except grasses and these tiny, amazing flowers. It's beautiful in its own way, and it's kind of crazy being up that high—you get super-tired and more than a little loopy :)
I haven't even tried to make an icon out of a gif, so you're way ahead of me there. If I happen to figure it out one of these days, I'll let you know :D

Date: 2010-12-06 03:54 am (UTC)Another wonderful thing about the mountains here is the endless lines of ridges. Just fold upon fold of 'em as far as the eye can see. There were 18 ridges visible in the picture that I used for the "misty" icon. I have a habit of counting them while out driving around or when looking at pictures. It's just irresistible to my eyes.
Wow, so when you're up as high as in that picture, you're basically walking around suffering from oxygen deprivation? Scary! But it's definitely pretty in a very stark way.
